Enjoy small-town living in Garland
"Texas Made Here"
Located in Northeast Dallas, the town now known as Garland was formed by the joining of two communities: Embree and Duck Creek. What began as a small town with a total population of 819 people now thrives as a major suburb with more almost 235,000 residents. Its prime location is bordered almost entirely by I-635, I-30 and President George Bush Turnpike, along with the south-east borer touching Lake Ray Hubbard.
In the early 1930s, the Craddock food company moved to Garland and began manufacturing pickles. Then, after WWII, Kraft Foods moved to the area and its Garland plant still operates today. Because of Garland's station on two major railroads, it was also once a major shipping point of onions in the 1940s. Present day, visitors flock to the area for notable establishments including Hawaiian Falls waterpark, which opened in 2003, and Firewheel Town Center, an outdoor mall with more than 100 businesses. Top Garland industries today include electronics, steel fabrication, oilfield equipment, hat manufacturing and dairy products.
